Terms of Service
Effective September 28, 2026
Using GistBrief
GistBrief lets you save web pages and create AI-generated summaries and tags, on the website, in the installable app and through the browser extension; these terms cover all of them. You must be at least 16, be legally able to accept these terms, and give accurate account information.
Your account and content
You are responsible for your account, for keeping your sign-in details safe, and for the URLs and content you submit. You keep your rights in that content and give GistBrief only the permission needed to retrieve, process, store and display it for you. When you save a page, GistBrief keeps a copy of its text in your library for your own personal use; the rights in that page stay with its owner. You can download your library at any time from Account.
Credits and payments
Saving links, scanning sites, searching the web and generating summaries use credits. The cost of each action is shown before you use it. We may change these costs; a change applies only to actions taken afterwards.
Credits are sold by Polar, our merchant of record, which handles payment, taxes and receipts under its own terms. Prices include VAT or similar taxes where they apply; in the US, Canada and India, sales tax is added at checkout instead.
Credits don't expire while your account is open. They have no cash value, can't be transferred or exchanged, and can only be used in GistBrief. Free credits, such as the signup bonus, may be removed if they're obtained through multiple accounts or other abuse.
If an action fails, for example a page can't be saved or a summary can't be generated, its credits are returned to your balance automatically.
You can ask for a refund of a purchase within 14 days, as long as you haven't used any of its credits, through our contact page. After that, or once its credits are used, purchases are non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise. Where the law gives you a right of withdrawal, it ends once you start using the credits from that purchase. When a purchase is refunded, its credits are removed from your balance, which can go below zero until you top up.
If you delete your account, any remaining credits are removed and aren't refunded, except as described above or where the law requires. If you dispute a payment with your bank, we may suspend the account until the dispute is resolved and remove the credits from that payment.
Acceptable use
Do not use the service to break the law, violate intellectual property rights, bypass access controls, distribute malware, interfere with the service, or place unreasonable load on it. You must have the right to access and process the content you submit.
AI and third-party services
Summaries and tags are generated by AI and can be incomplete or incorrect. Review generated content before relying on it. GistBrief relies on third-party services, such as hosting, payments, AI models, email, bot checks and error monitoring; our Privacy Policy lists them. Their availability can affect the service.
Availability and termination
We may change, suspend, or discontinue parts of the service. We may restrict or terminate accounts that violate these terms or create risk for the service or other people. If we discontinue GistBrief, or close your account for a reason other than a breach of these terms, we'll refund the unused credits you paid for. You may stop using GistBrief at any time.
Disclaimers and liability
The service is provided “as is” and “as available” to the extent permitted by law. GistBrief does not guarantee uninterrupted service, accuracy, or fitness for a particular purpose. To the extent permitted by law, GistBrief is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses arising from use of the service.
Changes
We may update these terms as the service changes. For significant changes we'll tell you by email or in the app before they take effect. The effective date above changes with each revision, and continuing to use GistBrief after a change takes effect means you accept it.
