Question 1

What is GistBrief?

Accepted Answer

GistBrief saves the links you want to read later and turns each one into a short AI brief with tags. Your reading list becomes a private library you can search, instead of a pile of open tabs.

Question 2

How do I get started?

Accepted Answer

Create an account, verify your email and paste your first link. Any welcome credits are added to your balance as soon as your email is verified.

Question 3

Which pages work?

Accepted Answer

Most public articles, blog posts and documentation pages. Pages behind a login or paywall usually can't be read.

Question 4

Can I save pages from my browser or phone?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The GistBrief extension for Chrome, Edge, Brave and Opera saves the page you're on with one click or Alt+Shift+G. There's also a bookmarklet for any desktop browser and Safari on iPhone, and on Android you can install GistBrief and save from the Share menu of any app.

Question 5

What is a credit?

Accepted Answer

Credits are how you pay for work GistBrief does for you. Saving a link, scanning a site, searching the web and generating a brief each use a few credits. The app shows the exact cost on every button before you click.

Question 6

Do I need a subscription?

Accepted Answer

No. You buy credits when you need them and use them at your own pace. They never expire.

Question 7

Do credits expire?

Accepted Answer

No. Credits stay in your balance for as long as your account is open, so there's no rush to use them.

Question 8

What happens if a page can't be saved?

Accepted Answer

If a link fails to import, a scan or search finds nothing, or a brief can't be generated, the credits for it are returned to your balance automatically.

Question 9

How do I buy credits?

Accepted Answer

Choose Buy credits in the app, pick a pack and pay at checkout. Checkout is run by Polar, our payment provider, and the credits are added to your balance as soon as the payment goes through.

Question 10

Do prices include tax?

Accepted Answer

Prices include VAT where it applies. In the US, Canada and India, sales tax is added at checkout.

Question 11

Where can I see what I've spent?

Accepted Answer

Your credit history in the app lists every purchase, charge and refund, with the link or search it was for.

Question 12

What's in a brief?

Accepted Answer

Two or three short paragraphs with the main points of the page, written for skimming, plus up to five tags so related reading groups itself.

Question 13

Can I choose the AI model?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Each brief uses the default model unless you pick another one. Models cost different amounts, and the cost is shown before you generate.

Question 14

Can I rewrite a brief?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Open the item and regenerate its brief, with the same model or a different one. Each new brief is charged like the first.

Question 15

Who can see my library?

Accepted Answer

Only you. Your saved pages and briefs are tied to your account. See the privacy policy for details.

Question 16

How do I find something I saved?

Accepted Answer

Search across titles, briefs and the full text of every page, or filter by tag. Items stay unread until you open them, and you can archive what you're done with to keep the list short.

Question 17

What is the weekly digest?

Accepted Answer

A short email with what you saved that week, so good reading doesn't get buried. You can turn it off in your account settings.

Question 18

Can I export my library?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Download every saved page with its brief and tags as a CSV or Markdown file from your account settings.

Question 19

How do I delete my account?

Accepted Answer

Delete it from your account settings. This permanently removes your account, every saved item and brief, and your credit history.
